Redskins reportedly interested in Flynn

The Washington Redskins are reportedly interested in another top-flight free agent. And for once, it might not be a bad decision.

Rotoworld, citing sources from ESPN 980 in Washington, is reporting that the Redskins are extremely interested in attaining Packers quarterback Matt Flynn in the upcoming offseason.

"ESPN's Mel Kiper told reporters earlier in the day that "grapevine" talk suggested the Redskins didn't have a high opinion of Flynn. Russell knows "for sure," though, that coach Mike Shanahan and OC Kyle Shanahan had a "detailed conversation" two weeks ago on Flynn's six-touchdown, 480-yard performance against the Lions in the regular season finale. Whereas Charley Casserly suggested Flynn wouldn't be a good fit for the Redskins offense, one team source tells Russell the two systems are "almost the same.""

Given Flynn's performances against the Lions this past season in which he broke Packers' single-game passing records, as well as his performance against the New England Patriots last season, this might not be a bad decision for Washington to make. Dan Snyder has been notorious for making outrageous deals for players who never turned out to be what he believed them to be. But if Flynn is their man this year, it might actually fill the gap at quarterback that they have been searching for for years it seems.

Or, it could blow up in his face again and be like the Kevin Kolb deal this year for the Arizona Cardinals. Who knows?
