I'll Have Another Does it Again and Moves Closer to Attaining Triple Crown

I'll Have Another (above) will have a chance at history on June 9th at The Belmont Stakes
Can you say déjà vu?

Once again today at The Preakness Stakes at Pimlico, the lightning-quick horse Bodemeister was leading for most of the race just like at The Kentucky Derby. The 2-1 favorite was inching its way towards redemption after having victory snatched away just two weeks ago by I'll Have Another, a 19-1 longshot to win the famed horse race, as the colt charged ahead at the finish, beating Bodemeister by nearly a full length. Today seemed different. It looked like Bodemeister was on its way towards redeeming itself and closing out the race at Pimlico, and make people forget about what happened in Louisville.

Until, well, I'll Have Another decided to... have another.

The colt feverishly sprinted its way towards the finish line and ran neck and neck with the speedy horse next to it. And it came down to a near photo finish and once again I'll Have Another came out victorious winning The Preakness Stakes. Now after claiming the first two legs of the Triple Crown, I'll Have Another will have a shot at history at June 2nd. I'll Have Another will look to do something that hasn't been achieved since Affirmed in 1978.

Win the Triple Crown.

We've seen many horses that have been able to win the first two legs of the Triple Crown. Big Brown in 2008, Smarty Jones in 2004, Funny Cide in 2003, War Emblem in 2002, the famous Charismatic in 1999, but all those horses, and the six others that have tried to achieve this illustrious honor have come up short in the past. The Belmont Stakes is a grueling mile-and-a-half-long track and it's no easy feat to continue to win race after race after race.

Call me crazy, but this seems a little different.

We haven't seen anything like this int he past. Yes, all of the other horses that have won the first two legs have made themselves known and won in striking fashion. But this is now two times in a row that I'll Have Another has won a race in Kobe Bryant-like fashion: closing strongly and "in the clutch," and he does it so well too.

The best two-horse rivalry since Affirmed and Alydar is occurring at this moment. Call me crazy, but I think history's going to be made on June 9th. Why? Because I believe this:

I'll Have Another will win the Triple Crown.
