Junior Seau Passes Away at 43

Tiania Baul "Junior" Seau, Jr. (1969-2012)
The National Football League lost one of its greatest players to step onto the gridiron since its inception. Junior Seau passed away at the age of 43, today, May 2nd, of an apparent suicide. According to the North County Times, Seau died of a self-inflicted gun wound to the chest. Seau was one of the greatest linebackers to ever play the game of football and was one of the premier players in the league while I was growing up. I was not fortunate enough to watch him during his prime but I have been able to watch highlights of him via NFL Films and YouTube and he seemed like a tremendous player whose accolades are impressive. A 10x All-Pro, a 12x Pro Bowler (making the Pro Bowl 12 consecutive times, even for the Pro Bowl, is impressive) and a member of the 1990's All-Decade Team. Seau is without a doubt one of the greatest strong-side linebackers of all-time and when eligible to make the Pro Football Hall of Fame should have no problem at all being elected on the first ballot.

Rest in Peace, Junior Seau.
