Hanley Ramirez Traded to Los Angeles

(Credit: US PRESSWIRE)
The news keeps on coming and coming tonight it seems. As the MLB Trade Deadline approaches, a late night deal has been made. According to Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports, the Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired former multiple time All-Star Hanley Ramirez and reliever Randy Choate from the Miami Marlins in exchange for pitcher Nathan Eovaldi and a minor leaguer.

Later, Jon Morosi of FOX Sports updated it with this tweet, revealing the minor leaguer to be Scott McGough, a RHP.

At the surface, and with a quick reaction, this looks to be a good deal for L.A. Despite Hanley's recent lack of success in Miami, and his constant laziness in the field, a change of scenery could be just the trick for the three-time All-Star and 2006 NL Rookie of the Year. Plus, Los Angeles desperately needs a third bat in the lineup to go along with Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier, and Hanley even at this point is just that. If he plays even 75% up to what he was just a few seasons ago, look out.

Hanley Ramirez currently is hitting .246, with an OBP of .322 and a SLG of .430 (OPS of .752), with 14 HR, 47 RBI, 49 runs scored and 14 stolen bases.

Garden State Sports Guy will bring a much more thorough look at this trade tomorrow.

Update: Scott Miller of CBSSports.com has confirmed that this trade is indeed official. Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times tweeted that Miami will not be sending any money to Los Angeles in this deal.
