The Notre Dame Shamrock Series Uniforms Are... Uh...

Uniforms, uniforms, uniforms. That seems to be the craze around the college football world these days. It seems like just about every team in the nation continues to change their uniforms year in, and year out. That one was for you, Oregon. Somewhere Phil Knight is continuing to shell out all sorts of combinations, and as we know, the color black will be somewhat incorporated into them. As we know, once you go black, you always go quack.

Nonetheless, today after the horrendous unveilings of uniforms sponsored by adidas that preceded it, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish unveiled the uniforms that they will be wearing against Miami in a game to be contested at Soldier Field this September. Let's just say that they're ... uh ... unique?

And, if that wasn't enough, here are some pictures, sponsored by the folks at One Foot Down

Now I will be fair here and say that a majority of this uniform looks good. The cleats look very nice, I'm honestly a big fan of the socks, the pants look great and the jersey itself is the best part about it. The font on the numbers looks great and I'm glad that they shied away from slapping a giant "ND" on the front of it, similar to what they did with the Michigan "M"the Nebraska "N", and the Wisconsin "W". The gloves too look very nice, and the undershirt as well. But the helmet? Ugh. The helmet looks absolutely disgusting. If they went with an all gold look, you know, like the normal helmet that they have, then overall this would have been a very good looking uniform and adidas would have done something worthwhile.

Instead, adidas finds a way once again to completely botch this. Whose idea was it to have a two tone helmet like this? The fighting irishman on the side seems like a nice concept, but the half gold, half navy blue concept just doesn't do it for me. Heck, even if it was just a plain gold it wouldn't be terrible. They seemed to go with this snake scale thing or whatever that they did. It just doesn't work. As One Foot Down noted, I would ditch these helmets if I were running the show at Notre Dame. It just doesn't look good at all. Heck, it's not even a full-fledged 50-50 two tone look. It's 60-40! Who thought that this would be a good idea?

I will admit though, as bad as they are, they are a bit respectable looking when they're actually on the players.

If only adidas were as good as Nike and their crazy designs. At least they look good.
