Colin Kaepernick took off and dazzled San Francisco fans last night. If only the game counted. (Credit: Getty Images) |
To say the very least, the San Francisco 49ers are coming off of a great 2011 campaign. Despite falling one game short to the New York Giants in the Super Bowl, they still exceeded expectations, went 13-3 and won a playoff game for the first time since 2002. They played in their first unofficial game in Candlestick Park last night since their crushing defeat in mid-January. There was actually something pretty amazing that happened, too.
Second-year quarterback Colin Kaepernick, the backup to former #1 overall selection Alex Smith turned a design zone read, feigning a handoff to rookie running back LaMichael James, into a 70-yard touchdown run, where Kaepernick outran a cornerback by the name of Chris Cook, a second-year cornerback out of The University of Virginia, who in March was acquitted of charges that he assaulted his girlfriend. In case you missed it, here we have it, so let's go to the videotape:

Let's just say Cook wouldn't be acquitted of not being able to bring down the quarterback. On a sidenote, who knows if Jim Harbaugh saw this and pondered whether or not to start making this a normality, or make designed toss passes, or line Kaepernick up as a wide receiver and have him come in on sweeps. The possibilities, honestly, are pretty endless.
