Chelsea Wins First UEFA Champions League in Dramatic Fashion

Across the pond today there was a little bit of history made. Chelsea Football Club squared off against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League Final and it was the Blues who came out of it victorious to win their first UEFA Champions League Championship in penalty kicks, 1-1. Chelsea fought with Bayern Munich from pillar to post and never seemed to relent or die, even though they were significantly beaten for the most part by Bayern Munich.

Chelsea found themselves on the ropes at 83' when Thomas Muller nailed a header past goalkeeper Petr Cech. As they had done all season however, Chelsea's luck stayed intact and at 88', Didier Drogba, one of the best footballers in the world from the Ivory Coast, who perhaps played his final game for Chelsea FC, headed in an astounding goal off of a corner kick. The corner kick was Chelsea's only corner kick of the game. Heck of a way to use your opportunities, right? In case you missed it, let's go to the video tape.

Astounding, really. And if that was not enough for dramatics, Chelsea and Bayern Munich wound up going to penalty kicks after a winner could not be decided in the 30 minutes of extra time. Bayern Munich took an early lead, but Chelsea kept scratching and clawing their way to get back into it, and eventually they did after an Ashley Cole goal to tie things up. And after midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger doinked Bayern Munich's final attempt off the post, Didier Drogba had his chance at the game winner.

And he made the most of it.

Now Chelsea and their fanbase can celebrate their first UEFA Champions League Championship after 107 years of waiting. As for Drogba his future is unknown now with Chelsea but these two goals and this day will live on forever in Chelsea FC lore and he will be remembered as nothing short of a legendary member of their football club.
