Didn't keep track of how well I did last week, but it felt like I got a lot wrong. Let's hope that trend doesn't continue this week. Lot of big matchups and old rivalries renewed, and a couple of laughers also. Let's see how I think Week 7 of this insane college football season is going to shake out.
Thursday
Western Kentucky Hilltoppers vs. Troy Trojans (ESPNU,
WatchESPN, 7:30 PM ET)
This is an honest coin
flip of Sun Belt squads. Naturally you would expect the home team to come away
with a victory, but the Trojans have yet to win at home, and Western Kentucky
has just one road loss: at Alabama. Give me the Hilltoppers.
Pick: Western
Kentucky
UTEP Miners vs. Tulsa Golden Hurricanes (8:00 PM ET)
Pick: Tulsa
Arizona State Sun Devils vs. Colorado Buffaloes (ESPN,
WatchESPN, 9:00 PM ET)
Pick: Arizona
State
Friday
Navy Midshipmen vs. Central Michigan Chippewas (ESPN2,
WatchESPN, 8:00 PM ET)
Pick: Central
Michigan
Saturday
#18 Louisville Cardinals vs. Pittsburgh Panthers (ESPNU,
WatchESPN, 11:00 AM ET)
Pick:
Louisville
#6 Kansas State Wildcats vs. Iowa State Cyclones (FX, 12:00
PM ET)
I’m not saying Iowa
State will win, but what I will say is that they will keep it close.
Pick: Kansas
State
#15 Texas Longhorns vs. #13 Oklahoma Sooners (ABC, 12:00 PM
ET)
The Red River Shootout
(or Rivalry, depending on who you talk to) more often than not brings quality
entertainment and I do not expect this game to be any different. Texas’ offense
got edged out last week by arguably the best offense in the country, and this
week they will be taking on an Oklahoma team who, quite frankly, has been
inconsistent when it comes to scoring. One week they’re in the 20’s, and the
next week they’re scoring 40+. The trend says they’ll be in the 20’s, and if
that’s the case, I don’t think that’ll be enough. The Longhorns will come away
with their first victory in this rivalry since 2009, and avenge their
excruciating 55-17 loss last year.
Pick: Texas
Syracuse Orange vs. #20 Rutgers Scarlet Knights (Big East
Network, ESPN3, GamePlan, 12:00 PM ET)
RU remains undefeated.
Pick: Rutgers
Iowa Hawkeyes vs. Michigan State Spartans (ESPN, ESPN3D,
WatchESPN, 12:00 PM ET)
Sparty should
absolutely take this game, but they seem to be reeling. They have lost two of
their last four games, and looked less than stellar in those two victories against
Eastern Michigan and lackluster Indiana. With that said, I’m going upset and
taking the Hawkeyes.
Pick: Iowa
Northwestern Wildcats vs. Minnesota Golden Gophers (ESPN2,
WatchESPN, 12:00 PM ET)
This at one time was
looking like a matchup of undefeated teams. Well two games later and it is a
matchup of one-loss teams, and both losses were gut punches. I think Pat
Fitzgerald gets his team to look past their gaffe last week against Penn State
and they come away with a victory against Minnesota.
Pick: Northwestern
UAB Blazers vs. Houston Cougars (12:00 PM ET)
UAB stays winless
against FBS opponents and Houston gets back to .500.
Pick: Houston
Kent State Golden Flashes vs. Army Knights (CBS Sports
Network, 12:00 PM ET)
Pick: Kent
State
Wisconsin Badgers vs. Purdue Boilermakers (Big Ten Network,
12:00 PM ET)
All things considered,
the winner of this contest is probably going to be Big Ten Championship bound.
Purdue looked to be the favorite after Wisconsin’s slipups, but their defense
has gotten progressively worse the last few weeks, and got stomped on by
Michigan last week. Wisconsin hasn’t yet figured out their offensive line
issues, but their defense has definitely been a big, big asset, only allowing
19.2 PPG. It will be close, it might be hard to watch, but I’ll take the
Badgers and stick with my convictions.
Pick:
Wisconsin
Auburn Tigers vs. Ole Miss Rebels (SEC Network, ESPN3,
GamePlan, 12:21 PM ET)
Pick: Ole Miss
Duke Blue Devils vs. Virginia Tech Hokies (ESPN3, GamePLan,
12:30 PM ET)
Pick: Virginia
Tech
Temple Owls vs. Connecticut Huskies (ESPN3, 1:00 PM ET)
Pick: Temple
Toledo Rockets vs. Eastern Michigan Eagles (1:00 PM ET)
Pick: Toledo
Southern Methodist Mustangs vs. Tulane Green Wave (1:00 PM
ET)
Pick: Southern
Methodist
Akron Zips vs. Ohio Bobcats (ESPN3, 2:00 PM ET)
Pick: Ohio
North Carolina Tar Heels vs. Miami (FL) Hurricanes (ESPNU,
WatchESPN, 2:30 PM ET)
Miami, despite the
loss they took last week to Notre Dame, is still on pace to make the ACC
Championship. I say they stay on that pace. Duke Johnson has a huge game.
Pick: Miami
(FL)
Utah Utes vs. UCLA Bruins (FOX, 3:00 PM ET)
UCLA got spanked by
California last week, but I think they bounce back with a home victory here.
Star Lotulelei might be great, but I don’t think he does enough for Utah’s
offensive deficiencies.
Pick: UCLA
Maryland Terrapins vs. Virginia Cavaliers (ESPN3, GamePlan,
3:00 PM ET)
Pick: Virginia
Western Michigan Broncos vs. Ball State Cardinals (ESPN3,
3:00 PM ET)
Pick: Ball
State
Nevada Wolf Pack vs. UNLV Runnin’ Rebels (3:00 PM ET)
Pick: Nevada
#1 Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Missouri Tigers (CBS, 3:30 PM
ET)
Alabama, in a laugher.
Pick: Alabama
#5 West Virginia Mountaineers vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders
(ABC, ESPN, WatchESPN, 3:30 PM ET)
Pick: West
Virginia
#17 Stanford Cardinal vs. #7 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (NBC,
3:30 PM ET)
Notre Dame is
continually looking better each week, and they still have yet to trail in a
game this year. Their defense is one of the best in the country, and has only
allowed 7.8 PPG this year (2nd in the nation). They’re no fluke folks, and
they’ll prove it when they beat down on the Cardinal this week in South Bend.
Pick: Notre
Dame
#10 Oregon State Beavers vs. Brigham Young Cougars (ABC,
ESPN3, 3:30 PM ET)
Pick: Oregon
State
Fresno State Bulldogs vs. #24 Boise State Broncos (NBC
Sports Network, 3:30 PM ET)
Pick: Boise
State
Illinois Fighting Illini vs. #25 Michigan Wolverines (ABC,
ESPN, WatchESPN, 3:30 PM ET)
Pick: Michigan
Miami (OH) Red Hawks vs. Bowling Green Falcons (ESPN3, 3:30
PM ET)
Pick: Bowling
Green
UTSA Roadrunners vs. Rice Owls (3:30 PM ET)
Roadrunners stay
undefeated with a big victory against Rice.
Pick: UTSA
Oklahoma State Cowboys vs. Kansas Jayhawks (3:30 PM ET)
Pick: Oklahoma
State
Buffalo Bulls vs. Northern Illinois Huskies (ESPN3, 3:30 PM
ET)
Pick: Northern
Illinois
Utah State Aggies vs. San Jose State Spartans (ESPN3,
GamePlan, 4:00 PM ET)
Pick: San Jose
State
Memphis Tigers vs. East Carolina Pirates (4:30 PM ET)
Pick: East
Carolina
Boston College Eagles vs. #12 Florida State Seminoles
(ESPN2, WatchESPN, 5:30 PM ET)
FSU rebounds from the
tough loss against NC State with a big win against BC.
Pick: Florida
State
#4 Florida Gators vs. Vanderbilt Commodores (ESPNU,
WatchESPN, 6:00 PM ET)
Pick: Florida
Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders vs. Florida International
Panthers (6:00 PM ET)
Pick: Middle
Tennessee
Colorado State Rams vs. San Diego State Aztecs (6:30 PM ET)
Pick: San
Diego State
#11 USC Trojans vs. Washington Huskies (FOX, 7:00 PM ET)
Be careful USC… be
very, very careful.
Pick: USC
Fordham Rams vs. #21 Cincinnati Bearcats (ESPN3, 7:00 PM ET)
Pick:
Cincinnati
Kentucky Wildcats vs. Arkansas Razorbacks (ESPN3, GamePlan,
7:00 PM ET)
It can’t get that much
worse for Arky… can it?
Pick: Arkansas
TCU Horned Frogs vs. Baylor Bears
TCU’s nation-long win
streak came to an end last week. They won’t find a win here either.
Pick: Baylor
Idaho Vandals vs. Texas State Bobcats (ESPN3, 7:00 PM ET)
Pick: Texas
State
South Alabama Jaguars vs. Arkansas State Red Wolves (7:00 PM
Et)
Pick: Arkansas
State
Air Force Falcons vs. Wyoming Cowboys (7:00 PM ET)
Pick: Air
Force
#3 South Carolina Gamecocks vs. #9 LSU Tigers (ESPN,
WatchESPN, 8:00 PM ET)
What a difference a
week makes. Both of these teams had completely opposite days and it changed the
perspective of both teams in my opinion. I’m not entirely sure if I trust LSU,
even though they do seem to bring it in big time situations at home. With that
said, I think the Gamecocks continue proving their worth and KO the Tigers from
National Title contention.
Pick: South
Carolina
#8 Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Indiana Hoosiers (Big Ten
Network, 8:00 PM ET)
Pick: Ohio
State
Southern Miss Golden Eagles vs. UCF Golden Knights (CBS
Sports Network, 8:00 PM ET)
Pick: UCF
Tennessee Volunteers vs. #19 Mississippi State Bulldogs
(ESPN2, WatchESPN, 9:00 PM ET)
Watch out for the
Bulldogs. They have been sneaky good all season and I expect that to continue
here as they knock off the Vols, and Derek Dooley’s seat gets hotter.
Pick:
Mississippi State
#22 Texas A&M Aggies vs. #23 Louisiana Tech Bulldogs
(ESPNU, WatchESPN, 9:00 PM ET)
LaTech keeps their BCS
busting dreams alive with a huge victory against the Aggies.
Pick:
Louisiana Tech
California Golden Bears vs. Washington State Cougars (Pac-12
Network, 10:30 PM ET)
Pick:
California
Sunday
New Mexico Lobos vs. Hawaii Warriors (12:00 AM ET)
Pick: Hawaii
