The Colorado Avalanche have decided to match an offer sheet for forward Ryan O'Reilly, who was the team's leading scorer in the 2011-12 season.
The team announced via their Twitter account that Reilly's offer sheet, which was signed by the Calgary Flames roughly three hours ago, sources told TSN. The offer sheet is rumored to be worth $10 million over two seasons, so an AAV of $5 million for the 22-year old Clinton, Ontario native.
O'Reilly over his three-year career with the Avalanche has been a very solid player. He has 107 points in total, and a career +/- of -4. He led the Avalanche last season in points (55) and scored 18 goals to go along with 37 assists.
This is certainly a good move for the Avalanche who can now put this standoff behind them and allow for O'Reilly to return to the team. The Avalanche could use him, as they have scored just 44 goals this season which is tied for 11th in the Western Conference, along with the San Jose Sharks.
